Marina Dykstra, Pastoral Care Coordinator – Bio

Marina is happy to visit those in need of pastoral care and to work out how the work of the pastoral care team will continue. She thinks that as believers in Christ we are the hands and feet of Jesus to show love to those around us. Marina believes we all have a part to play in pastoral care.

Marina worked as a Registered Nurse in long term care where she worked to meet the behavioural challenges as well as the spiritual and psychosocial needs of those with dementia.  After many years of nursing she felt a nudge to change direction.  Since 2006 she has completed a BA in Human Relations and Spirituality at St Paul’s University as well as a Graduate Certificate in Conflict Resolution from Carleton University.  In January 2016 Marina completed her training as a life celebrant which enables her to do funerals.

Marina has been married to Harry for enough years to stop counting.  They have three married sons and seven grandchildren.  Through many cups of coffee on the porch discussing ideas, wagon trains, rodeo and travel to Peru and Nicaragua their boys have enlarged their lives.   The grandchildren continue to enlarge their lives through love and laughter.

Marina enjoys people, spending time with family and friends, reading, writing and bird watching.  She enjoys meeting people for a cup of coffee and listening to them.
